Sushi Samba Bamboo

Location

Dubai, UAE

Date

June 2021 - June 2022

SUSHISAMBA Dubai commissioned an extensive bamboo art installation spanning the entire top-floor restaurant. Due to logistical constraints, full-scale natural bamboo could not be transported via the building’s elevator, requiring an alternative fabrication approach.

Additive manufacturing was adopted as the primary solution. Over a ten-month period, I led the 3D printing workstream, coordinating production across 53 dedicated printers. My role encompassed design development, print strategy, assembly methodology, and the resolution of manufacturing and construction challenges as they emerged on site.

At the time of construction, the installation was the largest interior 3D printed project to have been realised. The project demanded rigorous large-scale production planning and close coordination between design, fabrication, and installation teams. It stands as a practical demonstration of deploying additive manufacturing at architectural scale, balancing design intent, material behaviour, and real-world construction constraints.
